The Yoga Mind

I recieved a free copy of The Yoga Mind to review.

I like doing yoga for my health and mental well-being. I also believe that it is very important for my children to learn yoga, as well. Especially since my eldest boy is autistic and needs help to keep himself calm and centered. I would like to get my husband into yoga, but he is a bit resistant because he prefers traditional strength training exercises. This book is a little different than most yoga books I've seen. It's not a book of yoga poses or yoga flows, it's a book about the spiritual philosophy behind yoga. It explains the meanings of many different aspects of yoga and gives a little bit of information about them before providing the reader with something to practice the philosophy with. Sometimes it's yoga poses or flows, sometimes it's writing in a journal. This book doesn't explain how to do any of the poses or how to move between poses, it is written for those who already know their yoga poses and flows. This book is not for beginners, it is for the intermediate yogis who want to strengthen their practise and knowledge of the philisophical aspects of yoga. It's great for mindfulness. I'm not into the spiritual or religious side of yoga, I do yoga for the tangible benefits. That said this book is still interesting to me, because it does provide mindfulness exercises. I probably wouldn't buy a book like this, but for my friends that are into the spiritual aspects of yoga I think it's a good choice and I recommend it.
