This is a very short book, but it's a pretty good book as well. The story is about a kingdom of corrupt nobles who take advantage of women and girls with no repercussions and the citizens can only tolerate it as they have no recourse. The main character, Tala, gets attacked by one said noble walking home from helping an elderly widower. She is saved by an owl, and things start to get interesting from there. It is by far the best book I've read thus far by author Michael J. Allen, but it's also the shortest. I was very disappointed at how short the book is, it honestly feels like the story wasn't fleshed out as much as it should have been and at the end, it felt like there was still more story that has yet to be told. Perhaps there will be a sequel in the future?
